![]() "The popularity of VUDU combined with Android, the world's most popular mobile operating system, provides customers with even more convenience and access to new releases, Hollywood favorites and shows," said Prasanna Ganesan, general manager, VUDU. The free app is available for download in the Google Play store now. #FLIXSTER TO VUDU ANDROID#The VUDU app enables fans to stream or download more than 100,000 movies and TV shows on select tablet running the Android 4.0 operating system or above, with many more tablet models and smart phones to follow soon. #FLIXSTER TO VUDU MOVIE#19, 2012 – VUDU, the leading subscription-free, video-on-demand movie service, today announced its new app for Android, giving customers additional access to their favorite movie and TV entertainment on the go. Offers 10 free movies for all new VUDU users* VUDU now offers Android Users Access to 100,000 movies and TV shows There's still the pain of creating multiple logins for the virtual locker, but between Vudu and Flixster offers you should be able to snag a bunch of free flicks watchable anywhere on your Android device without spending a cent (or hunting through torrents and the like, your choice). Do you really need another reason to give it a shot? If so, try this one on - all new users who activate an UltraViolet account between now and March get 10 free movies. #FLIXSTER TO VUDU 1080P#Vudu also notes in the press release (included after the break) that as of last month, its Xbox 360 app has been updated to support 1080p HDX streaming video. A free app ready for download to "select" Android tablets, there's no word on when or if it will appear on phones, but we're told the list of supported devices will continue to grow. Interestingly, it's included a key feature not currently available in the iPad and iPhone Vudu Player app: users can download videos for offline viewing just like they do on PCs, not just streaming over WiFi in the browser. If I'd purchased it from iTunes, it would have cost me $14.99.Coming about a year after its launch on iOS, Walmart-owned Vudu has opened up access to its ( UltraViolet-connected) movie library on Android. Mere seconds after converting "The Shawshank Redemption," I found I could download or stream it on my iPhone. Ultimately, this is a great way to test-drive the whole disc-to-digital concept. You can also do Blu-rays (and for just $2 each!), but again the DVD-to-HD upcharge is $5 and not included. It's worth noting that Vudu is currently offering a similar promotion, but for only one free DVD-to-digital conversion. Otherwise, additional SD conversions cost $2 each - not a bad price, especially considering that you can do it right at home, no trip to Walmart required. And if you want to up-convert your DVDs to HD (not necessary for mobile viewing, but nice for bigger screens), it'll cost you $5 per - and the freebie promo doesn't cover that. What's more, Flixster doesn't currently support Blu-ray movies. That's because not all the movie studios are onboard for this disc-to-digital thing. Fox," "The Incredibles," and "Master and Commander" did not. Of the four I tried, only "The Shawshank Redemption" worked. First, not all movies are available for conversion. #FLIXSTER TO VUDU VERIFICATION#That's all there is to it there's no ripping involved here or anything like that, merely verification that you own a legitimate copy of the movie. If it's available for a conversion, just approve the "purchase" (again, you've got credit for five free ones), then wait a few more seconds until the disc pops out. The latter is effectively the cloud hub for your converted DVD collection, though ultimately you'll use Flixster - either on the Web or on your mobile device - to stream and/or download the movies.Ĭonversion works like this: Pop a DVD into your PC, then wait a few seconds while the software reads it. To take advantage of the deal, you'll need both Flixster and UltraViolet accounts. #FLIXSTER TO VUDU INSTALL#Movie-discovery and -streaming service Flixster is offering five free disc-to-digital conversions when you install the Flixster Desktop app on your Windows PC or Mac. Do I really have to spend $10 to $15 to buy them again? No doubt Apple, Amazon, and Google would love for me to buy their digital versions of all my platter-based movies, but I already bought them once. ![]() (It's true: I have awesome taste in movies.) So how am I supposed to watch all the great movies in my DVD collection? I'm talking "The Rock," "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Incredibles," "The Matrix," and so on. You know what my iPad doesn't have? A DVD player. ![]()
